Today, Monday, January 12, marks the birthday of the President of the Grand Prix Drivers Club, who was born 64 years ago.
Emanuele had a successful career in racing that continues today in historic racing, notably at the Goodwood Revival meeting, where he has had regular success.
His first Formula 1 GP was in 1989, driving a Benetton B188 in the French and British Grands Prix.
However, it is in international sports car racing that he excelled, winning the Le Mans 24-hour race three years running ( 2000/2002) driving for Audi with the R8. Then in 2006 and 2007 he returned to Le Mans with the Audi R10TDI and added another two wins.
In other disciplines he twice won the Macau Guia race with Schnitzer BMW M3 SE’s and numerous other wins in championships driving Audi A4 Quatro’s.
Rarely seen without a smile on his face he remains one of the most popular and successful drivers in historic racing. The Club sends him best wishes.
